In a saucepan, heat the sugar and water over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

Increase the heat to high and let the mixture boil without stirring until it turns amber in color.

Remove the saucepan from heat and slowly pour in the coconut milk while whisking continuously.

Return the saucepan to low heat and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
