Preheat the grill or oven to medium heat.

Slice the baguette into 1-inch thick slices.

Place the bread slices on the grill or in the oven and toast until lightly golden.

Meanwhile, dice the tomatoes and finely chop the garlic.

In a bowl, combine the tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, salt, and black pepper.

Remove the toasted bread from the grill or oven and let it cool slightly.

Rub each slice with a garlic clove.

Spoon the tomato mixture onto each slice.
