Black bean veggie burgers are a popular alternative to meat burgers, providing a good source of plant-based protein and fiber.

Rinse and drain the black beans.

In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher.

Finely chop the onion, garlic cloves, and red bell pepper.

Add the chopped vegetables, cornmeal, breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the mashed black beans.

Mix everything together until well combined.

Shape the mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

Toast the buns if desired.
