Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, cumin, and chili powder and cook for another minute.

Add black beans and vegetable broth to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the soup to a blender and puree until smooth.

Stir in lime juice and salt. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
