Black bean burgers are a popular vegetarian alternative to traditional beef burgers and are packed with protein and fiber.

Rinse and drain the black beans.

In a food processor, combine the black beans, onion, garlic cloves, bread crumbs, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still slightly chunky.

Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add the egg. Mix well.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.

Toast the burger buns.

Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun and topping with lettuce, tomato, and red onion.
