Smashed Rutabagas with Ginger-Roasted Pears
Rutabagas are a cross between turnips and cabbage, and they have a slightly sweet and nutty flavor.

Smashed Rutabagas with Ginger-Roasted Pears

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Peel and cut the rutabagas into small chunks.

Place the rutabagas on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt, black pepper, and fresh thyme.

Toss to coat the rutabagas evenly.

Roast in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until tender and golden brown.

While the rutabagas are roasting, peel and core the pears. Cut them into quarters.

In a separate baking dish, place the pears and drizzle with maple syrup. Sprinkle with ginger.

Roast the pears in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until soft and caramelized.

Remove the rutabagas and pears from the oven.

In a large bowl, smash the roasted rutabagas with a fork or potato masher until desired consistency is reached.
