Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Fry the plantain slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Remove the fried plantains from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Using a tostonera or the bottom of a glass, flatten each plantain slice.

Heat the vegetable oil in the frying pan again.

Fry the flattened plantain slices for another 2-3 minutes on each side, or until crispy.

Remove the tostones from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Sprinkle with salt and serve hot.
