Trim the tough ends of the asparagus and cut them into 1-inch pieces.

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened.

Add the asparagus pieces to the pot and cook for 5 minutes.

Pour in the vegetable stock and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly. Using a blender, puree the soup until smooth.

Return the soup to the pot and reheat gently. Stir in lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
