Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.

Add the tomatoes, lima beans, vegetable broth, salt, and black pepper.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Use an immersion blender to blend the soup until smooth.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
