Rinse the red lentils under cold water.

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally.

Add minced garlic, cumin powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Cook for another 2 minutes.

Add rinsed red lentils and vegetable broth to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the lentils are tender.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the soup to a blender to puree until smooth.

Stir in lemon juice and adjust seasoning if needed.

Serve the soup hot, garnished with fresh cilantro leaves.
