Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.

Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

Fry the plantain slices until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

Remove the fried plantains from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Using a flat-bottomed cup or a tostonera, flatten each fried plantain slice.

Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry again until crispy and golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Remove the patacones from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
