Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Add ground cumin, ground coriander, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the vegetables with the spices.

Add chickpeas, canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Serve hot with a sprinkle of fresh cilantro and lime wedges on the side.
