Rinse the lentils and set aside.

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until translucent.

Add the garlic, ginger, and berbere spice mix. Cook for another minute.

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.

Add the lentils, vegetable broth, salt, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 40 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.

Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.
