Peel and chop the yam into small cubes.

In a large pot, heat some oil and sauté the onions, ginger, and garlic until fragrant.

Add the yam cubes and vegetable stock to the pot. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for about 20 minutes or until the yam is tender.

Using a blender or immersion blender, puree the soup until smooth.

Stir in the coconut milk, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for another 5 minutes.

Serve the soup hot, garnished with cilantro.
