In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until onion is translucent.

Add diced sweet potatoes, black beans, vegetable broth, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until sweet potatoes are tender.

Use an immersion blender to blend the soup until smooth. Alternatively, transfer the soup to a blender and blend in batches until smooth.

Stir in lime juice and adjust seasonings if needed.
