Add the tomatoes and vegetable broth to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly. Use an immersion blender to puree the soup until smooth.

Return the pot to heat and stir in the basil leaves. Season with salt and black pepper. Simmer for another 10 minutes.
