Ingredients
  • 1 cup Yellow Lentils
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 1 medium Tomato
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 chopped Green Chili
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • to taste for garnish Cilantro
Instructions
  1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, water, chopped onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, green chili, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  3. Close the pressure cooker lid and cook on medium heat for 4-5 whistles.
  4. Once the pressure is released, open the lid and give the dal a good stir.
  5. In a small pan, heat ghee and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  6. Pour the tempering over the cooked dal and mix well.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro.
  8. Serve hot with rice or roti.
