  • 2 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 4 clove Garlic
  • 800 canned Tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoon Tomato Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • optional for garnish Fresh Basil Leaves
Instructions
  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until softened.
  3. Add the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar.
  4. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat and let the sauce rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve the Sicilian tomato sauce over your favorite pasta or use it as a base for other Italian dishes.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
