  2. Heat oil in a large pot and add cumin seeds.
  3. Once the seeds start to splutter, add chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onion turns translucent.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  5. Drain the lentils and add them to the pot along with chopped cabbage.
  6. Add water and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until lentils are cooked and cabbage is tender.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
  8. Serve hot with rice or bread.
