Ingredients
  • 1 cup Basmati Rice
  • 1 cup Split Yellow Moong Dal
  • 1 cup Mixed Vegetables (Carrots, Peas, Cauliflower)
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 medium Tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 2 1 Green Chili (slit)
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 1 Bay Leaf
  • 1 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 3 Cloves
  • 1 2 Cardamom Pods
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh Coriander Leaves (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
Instructions
  1. Wash the rice and dal together, and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add the whole spices (bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods). Fry for a minute.
  3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili. Cook for a minute.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add the mixed vegetables and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Drain the soaked rice and dal, and add them to the pressure cooker. Mix well.
  9. Add water and close the pressure cooker with the lid.
  10. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the rice and dal are cooked.
  11. Let the pressure release naturally and then open the cooker.
  12. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and lemon juice.
  13. Serve hot with raita or pickle.
